Damietta has a unique geographical location that is almost unparalleled in any other part of the world, as it overlooks the sea, the river and the lake. Damietta Governorate is located north of the Delta, 15 km from the river’s mouth in the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile River (Damietta branch) divides it into two parts, bordered to the north by the Mediterranean Sea, to the east by Lake Manzala, and to the south and west by the Delta farms and plains.
